The Balboa Park Senior Lounge: Operating within beautiful Balboa Park, and in conjunction with the San Diego Parks and Recreation department, this Senior Lounge is open 7 days a week from 9:30 to 3:30. The facility is a hub for seniors, offering art classes on Tuesdays from 1-3:30, cribbage games on Wednesdays from 10:00-12:00 am, senior group walks throughout Balboa Park on Thursdays from 10:00-11:00 am, and so much more! Senior Dances: From 1:00-3:30 pm on the second and fourth Thursdays of every month, the Balboa Park Club hosts senior dances, featuring live entertainment, refreshments, and prizes. The cost of admission at the door is only $5, and seniors get to enjoy the excitement of mingling with new friends. Seaport Village: This 14-acre outdoor marina park location features plenty of unique stores, restaurants, and strollable pathways, complete with plenty of benches and shady spots that are prefect for seniors to rest on and watch the turtles and fish in the many ponds. Don’t miss out on the free Sunday concert series from 1:00-4:00 pm at the East Plaza Gazebo location. Seaport Village is located at 849 West Harbor Drive, at the intersection of Harbor Drive and Kettner. The downtown trolley has a convenient stop within easy walking distance of Seaport Village.

Horton Plaza Park: The beautiful new outdoor park area directly adjacent to the Horton Plaza features a courtyard amphitheater; cafe tables; as well as a Starbucks and Sloan’s ice cream. It is a great location to gaze at the refurbished historic landmark fountain and the eight 23-foot-tall light sculptures that change color. Located at 900 4th Avenue, it provides plenty of people-watching.

Downtown Central Library: This beautiful building is an attraction all by itself, not to mention all of the wonderful events, art and knowledge inside. The innovative architectural building features a glass elevator, a view from the ninth story’s atrium, a sculpture garden, art exhibitions, and of course a huge selection of books. There are even free orchestral concerts on Sundays at 2:30 pm at the Neil Morgan Auditorium, located on the other side of the library’s courtyard. Reuben Fleet Science Center’s Every Monday, senior citizens can enjoy IMAX films, all exhibits and lectures for just $7. Be sure to call 619-238-1233 to reserve your spot, as tickets tend to sell out quickly. Reuben Fleet is located at 1875 El Prado, San Diego, CA 92101, but parking is accessed from Park Blvd. The movie schedule provides times and fees.
